The People behind the Process
Artistic Textiles is among the first in Canada to make custom textile design combined with digital textile printing readily available to design firms, designers and anyone else with a creative concept they want printed on fabric.
With over a decade of experience in printing, graphic design, marketing, and quality control, our team provides the personal connection between digital textile printing technology and our customers.
Our design team is available to collaborate with you to develop your exclusive textile and guide you through the technical aspects of the process.
The Custom Digital Printing Process
Suddenly, your design and artistic possibilities are endless. Using a custom-designed, custom printed digital process, both professionals and hobbyists can now customize fabrics for window treatments, murals, backdrops, soft signage & other textile printing applications.
Consider the possibilities - not only do your design options become infinite, but the process becomes more efficient: you'll recognize significant savings over traditional printing methods and product delivery is reduced to days - not weeks.
With custom designed, custom printed textiles, you control color, pattern, size or scale and textile media!
- Color: digital printing allows you to choose from thousands of colors to create your own color palette.
- Print/Pattern Design: print textiles using your own designs, or have our creative team help you interpret your ideas, or sketches into custom, exclusive designs.
- Size and Scale: we will help you proportion your prints appropriately for its end-use application. This allows you the option of creating coordinating accessories!
- Textile Media: choose from our extensive library of fabrics and textures.
Image Quality
As exciting as this new technology is, however, there are limits to what can be achieved on textiles. And the largest of these limitations is related to consumer expectations. Designs printed on fabric will not necessarily look like those viewed on paper - and especially not those viewed exclusively on a computer screen. Textile weave and nap can dramatically modify the final, printed product.
In essence - the quality of the final product will only be as good as the quality of the image prepared for digital printing.
Colour Quality - It's more an Art than an exact Science!
Your sky blue might not be ours. Nor might your deep, verdant green match ours. Words and phrases used to describe colour trigger images and impressions in our minds - but sharing those impressions exactly enough to achieve parity between your vision and ours is often difficult.
Beyond verbally describing colours, sharing files helps to minimize some of the disparity between what you want your blue to look like and what our printers can achieve. This is because not all computer monitors - or even graphics programs - treat and define the same colour values in the same way! Gets a little confusing, doesn't it?
When working with clients we now request either actual textile or wall-covering samples of the colours you're trying to achieve - or a full-colour printout of your file whose colours are those that you're perfectly satisfied with.
From your sample, we "measure" all of the colours with a spectrometer and create a "colour profile" specifically for your print order. Because printing on textile isn't quite as simple as substituting textile for paper, the additional steps we may need to take to ensure colour fastness, etc. may also modify the final range of colours we're able to achieve for your order.
Textile Quality
As important as starting your project with the best quality file you can develop, choosing the right fabric for your project must be your next priority. Fabric weave - the tightness and/or the direction of the fibres - and the nap or degree to which the fabric is textures will impact the final appearance of your printed project.
Again, it's important to bear in mind that what you may imagine your finished textiles will look like may be very different from the reality - unless you carefully attend to this step.
How Artistic Textiles can Help
Digitally printing custom textiles allows the artist in all of us to dream. But parlaying that dream into a reality that's as close as possible to your artistic concept can be difficult - but not impossible!
Because of our experience collaborating closely with clients, we approach each new project as another opportunity to learn, experiment and assist others in achieving the best possible outcome for their custom textile projects.
When you call, or email, us we'll speak with you at length regarding your expectations, your final purpose for your fabric, and the degree to which you might require assistance from our artists. We truly believe that the sky is the limit - and we'll do what we must to make your project a success. And if it's not possible - or our printing processes aren't the best for your project - we'll tell you that up front. You have our word on it! |
