A "microscopic" view of the world...

The Project

A lone window in a difficult location: high above the home's open foyer - yet one that illuminated the walkway across the open space, and so vulnerable to prying eyes from adjacent homes. Too high for curtains, blinds were too casual, and an original stained-glass insert too costly - still the homeowners wanted something modern, unique and affordable

Our Solution

When visiting the site, we agreed that a stained-glass insert would be perfect for the window, and suggested we do so with a light-filtering media. The image we chose was from a collection of electron microscopy slides, colorized to coordinate with the home's color palette. The resultant image was printed onto translucent media, stretched across a simple black frame and lightly fastened to the window's existing frame.

For a more brilliant, less privacy-oriented look, the image could have been printed onto vinyl cling and no frame would have been required for mounting.
